BACKGROUND

Synergy Pilates was founded by Aideen Stevens in September 2012.  The business started out small offering mostly Reformer Pilates Classes alongside Mat and Pilates Barre. Over the years the business has grown steadily, increasing the number of classes and Pilates Teachers. We are now a team of three (Aideen, Martin and Mafra) offering a variety of teaching styles to suit everyone.

 THE TEAM

(PHOTOS TO BE ADDED SOON)

Aideen is a mother of two girls and is originally from Galway. Prior to becoming a Pilates Teacher, she moved to Kilkenny in 2005 to work as an Archaeologist for a company. Aideen has an MA in Archaeology from NUIG and worked in that industry for 5 years. She had a particular interest in anatomy and specialised in Human remains and Osteology, in which she carried out a minor dissertation for her BA Degree at UCD. During 2007–2008, she embarked on her training to become a fitness Instructor and Pilates teacher. Aideen’s Pilates teaching experience spans 14 years; she is a Balanced body and Polestar certified Pilates teacher, qualified to teach Mat and Reformer Pilates to all levels, as well as specialising in Pre-/Post-Natal, Spinal Flexion Pathologies, Spine Correction and Pilates for Children. As well as teaching her studio classes, she has for the past 6  years been the Pilates teacher to the Kilkenny Swimming Club Senior and Junior A Teams, some of whom are Junior Olympians, Provincial and National team members. Aideen was herself a three time Provincial Bronze Medalist Swimmer, as a result she understands what it takes to be a competitive swimmer, and that Pilates can help bring you to the top of your performance in your given sport. In addition to Pilates, Aideen is a qualified Hatha Yoga and Aerial Yoga Trapeze teacher. Aideen is currently a back in college (alongside running the business) for the next 4 years studying to become a licensed Medical Herbalist, Iridologist and  Vitalist nutritionist and is looking forward to opening a clinic one day.

Martin joined the Synergy Pilates team in 2015. He is a father of four children and originally hails from San Francisco, where he was raised as a Galwegian Gaeilgeoir. With background training in Kung Fu, Martin is a Balanced Body certified teacher and has been teaching Pilates since 2013. His Zen-like persona is conveyed through his teaching style, where his knowledge, integrity and ‘Van Damme-esque’ physicality never ceases to amaze. Martin wants to continue his professional Pilates teacher-training to add to his already-impressive repertoire.

Mafra joined the team in 2017. She is a mother of four children and is our Kilkenny Cat. With over 9 years of Pilates practice, Mafra bacame a Balanced Body certified Mat and Reformer Pilates teacher in 2016. In addition, to her Pilates qualifications, she is also a Hatha Yoga Teacher. Her academic qualifications consist of a BA in English Literature, a Diploma in Legal studies from Kings Inns and MA in Law (DIT). As result, she has a keen eye for detail and is extremely articulate - both of which are tools required to teach Pilates. Mafra is planning to become certified in Yin Yoga this year. Alongside teaching in Synergy Pilates, Mafra has her own Pilates and Yoga Studio called 'the lime tree' studio, located in Burnchurch, Cuffesgrange, Co. Kilkenny.
